Cache Pot Benefits
As pottery makers, there’s a special joy in crafting pieces that not only bring beauty to a home but also serve a practical purpose. One of our favorite creations at The Curated Jungle is the cache pot—a decorative plant container without drainage holes. These pieces are more than just beautiful additions to your space; they’re hardworking heroes in your plant care routine. So today we are going to share why are our handmade cache pots are the perfect companions for your beloved greenery.
1. Easy Watering for Healthier Roots
One of the most common plant care challenges is watering correctly. Overwatering or underwatering can lead to root rot or dry, unhappy plants. With a cache pot, you can give your plants the deep, full watering they crave, easy peasy style. You simply water your plant just until water starts to flow out of the nursery pot. Set the nursery pot back into the cache pot, allowing any excess water to be absorbed back into the soil. This method ensures that the plant’s soil and root system gets a nice, even watering—far more effective than watering with a saucer, which often leaves parts of the soil too dry. This practice promotes healthier, more resilient plants.
2. Aesthetic Appeal and Concealment
When it comes to styling your home, plants are like the jewels that bring everything to life. But let’s face it, the plastic nursery pots they often come in aren’t exactly eye-catching. That’s where cache pots step in! The Curated Jungle handmade pots are designed with decorative elements that let you choose a style that perfectly complements your home decor. Whether you’re into sleek minimalism or earthy charm, there’s a cache pot to match. So hide those plain, unsightly nursery pots, and instead create one of a kind statement pieces out of your favorite beauties.
3. Improved Humidity for Happy Plants
Plants, especially tropical varieties, thrive in humid conditions. A cache pot creates a small microenvironment around the plant that helps retain moisture, giving your green friends the extra humidity they love. It’s like giving your plants a mini spa day, every day. And because TCJ pots are handmade with materials that naturally wick and retain moisture, they’re perfect for this purpose, ensuring your plants stay lush and vibrant.
4. Flexibility for Easy Plant Styling
One of the great things about using cache pots is the flexibility they offer. Because the plants remain in their original nursery pots, you can easily swap them in and out of different cache pots without disturbing the roots. This makes it incredibly simple to refresh your plant display whenever the mood strikes—whether it’s changing up for the seasons or just experimenting with a new look. It’s like having a versatile wardrobe for your plants!
5. Protects Your Furniture from Water Damage
Let’s not forget the practical side—protecting your furniture and floors. Since cache pots don’t have drainage holes, they’re perfect for catching excess water, preventing spills and stains that can occur from overwatering. You get all the benefits of proper watering without the risk of damaging your surfaces.

How to Water Plants in a Cache Pot
Watering plants in a cache pot requires a slightly different approach than watering plants in a pot with drainage holes. Here’s a our favorite ways in a step-by-step guide to help you water your plants in cover pots:
Deep Watering
When your plant is ready for a drink you will want to give it a nice deep watering. This involves watering the plant as usual but letting the nursery pot sit in a small amount of water- just enough to cover the bottom of the pot. This allows the soil to absorb water from the bottom up, ensuring that the entire root system is hydrated.
Beginners Tip: After about 20 mins you can lift the nursery pot and dump out any remaining water. After you become a cache pot pro this will become second nature and you won't even have to check anymore.
Pro Tip: Clear nursery pots are a charm as you can see the soil and if there are dry spots or problems with your roots.
For smaller and beginner plant collections you can follow the routine below to ensure your plants are thriving while you learn their care needs.
1. Remove the Nursery Pot
Carefully lift the nursery pot (the one that actually holds the plant) out of the cache pot. This prevents water from accumulating at the bottom of the cache pot, which can lead to root rot.
2. Water the Plant Thoroughly
Take the nursery pot to a sink or another area where you can water freely. Slowly water the plant until you see water starting to flow out from the bottom of the nursery pot. This ensures that all of the soil is evenly moistened and the roots are thoroughly hydrated.
3. Let the Pot Drain Completely
Allow the nursery pot to sit in the sink or on a draining rack for several minutes to ensure that excess water drains away completely. This step is crucial to prevent water from pooling in the cache pot.
4. Check for Excess Water
Before placing the nursery pot back into the cache pot, check that the pot is no longer dripping. If necessary, pat the bottom of the pot with a towel to remove any remaining excess water.
5. Replace the Nursery Pot in the Cache Pot
Once the nursery pot has stopped draining, place it back into the cache pot. The cache pot will now protect your surfaces from any residual moisture, and your plant will benefit from the slight humidity that can build up inside.
6. Monitor the Soil Moisture
Keep an eye on the soil moisture between waterings. Since cache pots don’t allow excess water to escape, you may need to adjust your watering frequency based on the plant’s needs and the type of plant.
7. Avoid Overwatering
Be mindful not to overwater. Cache pots retain moisture, so your plant may not need watering as often as it would in a pot with drainage holes. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it’s essential to let the soil dry out a bit between waterings.
8. Clean your Cache Pot
Periodically, remove the nursery pot and clean the inside of the cache pot. This helps prevent the buildup of mineral deposits, mold, or mildew that can occur from trapped moisture.
By following these steps, you can ensure your plants receive the proper care they need while enjoying the aesthetic and practical benefits of using cache pots.
