    All About Self-Watering Pots

Do the pots come with wick sticks?

    Yes!
Every self-watering pot includes wick sticks so you can start right away.

    No extra purchase needed.

Even though we highly recommend you stock up on these magic little sticks. They work for propagating and saucers too!

How do I fill the reservoir?

You can fill it two easy ways —

    1. by bottom watering through the side opening,
    2. or simply pouring water from the top until the reservoir is full.

The wick system then pulls up the perfect amount of water to keep soil evenly moist.

How often do I need to water?

Check every 3–7 days in the summer, and every 1–2 weeks during cooler months.

Your plant’s size, soil mix, and environment will affect timing — but either way, you can expect a perfect watering every time with a little wiggle room for you between.

What kind of soil works best?

Well-draining soil is key for any plants health and when you add that with a self-watering box you get the perfect set up for your plant.

    • For leafy or tropical plants, a chunky, light potting mix works beautifully.
    • For Hoya, Cactus and Succulents, try semi-hydroponic setups (pon, leca, DIY Pon + Tree Fern) or blends like sand, pumice, and coco coir.
Wait.. Can I really use self-watering pots with succulents or cactus?

    Yes!

We’ve found cactus and succulents thrive in self-watering when paired with a hydro-based medium like leca, pon, or our personal DIY Pon + Tree Fern mix.

They grow faster and bloom more often.

Just allow the soil and reservoir to dry a couple days between waterings.

Don't worry, you will be able to tell if the saucer is bone dry or still damp from recent water.
